This route allows visitors to discover the windmills that were abandoned between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century due to the reduction of wheat cultivation. Thanks to the arrival of electricity, it was possible to locate them in more accessible places and overcome dependence on the wind.
The mills to be visited are located in the higher areas of Pedreguer, Gata de Gorgos, Jesús Pobre and Xàbia. Most of them are in a good state of conservation and you can appreciate their circular and slightly conical structure. The walls are made of stone and are more than a metre and a half thick.
The interior was divided into three floors: the lower floor, which was used to store the grain and collect the flour sacks from the flour maker, where the only access door is located. The cambreta, which would be between the lower and upper floors made of wooden beams, was used to store the mill utensils and sleep. Finally, the upper room was the main working space, where the machinery was kept.

Pedreguer Windmills
In Pedreguer there are two mills located in the middle of the valley formed by La Sella and the mountain of Pedreguer. It is a simple circular walk of little more than 2 km of route. The two mills are contemporary in style and 1850 is considered the correct date of construction, as it appears on the lintel of one of the doors. The mills were subsequently restored in 2016 by the City Council.
The starting point will be from the intersection between País Valencià Avenue and Les Industries Avenue. There are informative signs indicating the ascent to Los Molinos and the road simply goes straight ahead, so it is difficult to miss it.
Once the visit is finished, you will move towards Gata de Gorgos by the CV-732 road for a distance of 5.6 km.
Gata de Gorgos Windmills
In Gata de Gorgos there are two windmills from the nineteenth century, used by the citizens of the village to grind grain and obtain flour. The two are located on a hillock at the entrance of the village, and you can access and visit them by a recently created path that is clearly waymarked. You can make a circular route of 2.5 km.
Once the circular route is finished, you will move to Jesus Pobre by the Partida Plans to visit the three mills of this EATIM (Entity of the Territorial Area in the Interior of the Municipality).
Jesús Pobre Windmills
The Gran Riurau del Senyoret will be the starting point. You will follow the route through the marked streets and goes up to the tosal where you will find the three mills. From there you can enjoy amazing sights of the sea, the Montgó and the villages of Gata de Gorgos and Pedreguer. The route is 1 km long and runs along an unpaved path.
Xàbia Windmills
To get to the Mills of Xábia from Jesús Pobre you will travel along the Camí dels Castellans for 11.2 km until reaching the area of Les Planes de Xàbia. The windmills of "Les Planes" reigned in this viewpoint since its first construction in the 14th century. Ten other towers were built later, whose remains can still be seen in this unique corner of the coast, although in different levels of preservation and without blades or cover. The windmills had to withstand the impact of the intense "llebeig", the warm southwest wind which blows in a practically steady basis in the Trencall de la Plana. The windmills, now in disuse, incorporated robust mechanisms made of holm oak wood that moved the heavy circular stone millstones.
