This route runs along paths and tracks in Gata de Gorgos, Llíber, Senija and Benissa following the line of the Riurau, a very emblematic architecture of these regions and a unique construction in the world. These are buildings with a naya or open porch with lowered arches that were used to dry the sultanas. The origin of this architecture can be found in the 19th century, which was the golden age of the sultana, when it was considered a luxury for the palate.
The Riurau facilities are private properties, so the visit will be made from outside the plot.

Go along secondary roads and paths where you will enjoy the natural landscapes and architecture of the Riuraus.
Four sections are suggested below to stop and delight with each town and its services.
Section 1. From Gata de Gorgos to Llíber
You will take the road CV-748 and after 9 km you will get to Llíber
Duration: by 2 h on foot and 40 min by cycling
Section 2. From Llíber to Senija
You will take the road CV-745 and after 4 km you will get to Senija
Duration: 1 h on foot and 20 min. by cycling
Section 3. From Senija to Benissa
Senija to Benissa by CV-748 2 km
Duration: 30 min. on foot and 10 min by cycling
Section 4. From Benissa to Gata de Gorgos
From Benissa to Gata by CV-748 11 km
Duration: 2 h on foot and 50 min. by cycling
Please, note that the route can be done by car, as the suggested paths and roads are passable. You only have to change the last stretch from Benissa to Gata de Gorgos and choose the N-332 road.
This route will allow you not only to know the Riuraus but the whole process of the sultan traditional production in La Marina Alta, the tools and the landscape surrounding the constructions. More detailed information available in: http://www.rutadelsriuraus.es
From Gata de Gorgos to Llíber passing by Senija and Benissa you can do the route according to your personal tastes and preferences. It is a low-difficult route where during 26 km you will contemplate the singularity of the Riuraus, the terraces with Muscatel grape vines as well as the different natural, architectural and cultural attractions of each village.
The gastronomy in the different towns characterizing this route-experience is mainly based on the Mediterranean cuisine. The location between the mountain and the sea provides the dishes with the most special flavour, making them healthy, varied and balanced. These towns have always been rich in grape, olives and almonds harvesting, so the authenticity constitutes their culinary base.
